Look who's turning 200 !
Two hundred years ago…
In 2020, our McKinney Chapel will turn 200 years old. When John McKinney came to the Eastatoe Valley in 1820, he wanted to build a log structure that served as both a community church and a school. The building was a collaboration of local folks from various denominations, mostly members of the McKinney, Chapman, Stewart, Mosley, Ellenburg and Bowie families. The historic cemetery lists the names of the many early settlers and family members.
Today, McKinney Chapel offers an ecumenical service on the 4th Sunday of the month at 10:00 a.m. Local visiting ministers from various denominations provide our services. Afterward, fellowship and refreshments are enjoyed under the outdoor pavilion and at the Clubhouse during the cooler months.
As we celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the founding of McKinney Chapel, we face a financial need for maintenance and upkeep.
Service donations are given to local charities including Golden Pantry Food Bank, Meals on Wheels and Family Promise, limiting funds available for caring for the chapel and grounds.
The many needs include a new front door, electrical, stairs and ramp repairs, additional gravel for the driveway and parking, HVAC, restroom update, roof repairs, pavilion roof replacement, ceiling repainting and grounds keeping.
